Yumeka Wong

Hello! Thank you for taking a chance to get to know me. I'm Yumeka, I'm an art therapist and a psychotherapist (RP Qualifying, #11030). I received my diploma in Art Therapy from Toronto Art Therapy Institute and registered with the Canadian Art Therapy Association and the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (RP Qualifying, #11030). I work with all ages of clients with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, family conflict, life transition, immigration stress, chronic pain, and other mental health concerns. While my specialization is in art therapy, I also provide talk-therapy depending on the client's preference.

Yumeka Wong Story

I moved a lot since adolescence and lived in places such as India, the United States, Thailand, and Canada while my family resides in Japan. As adventurous and fun as my journey was, it was also filled with the loneliness and guilt of being far away from my family and the lost sense of identity. The concept of mental health was not taught to me growing up and one thing that helped me during my dark time was creating art. Focusing on the act of creating gave me relaxation and quiet time to process and express any emotion. It was only later that I discovered the practice of art therapy and now I'm on the journey to help others.

What is Art Therapy?

Art Therapy is a form of therapy that uses art as a relaxation tool as well as a communication tool for your emotions and experiences. Art therapy is not only an excellent therapeutic practice for children but also for adults who may find it difficult to put their feelings into words.
I often hear "I am not good at art" from the clients. Well, neither am I! No previous art skills are required. Art is subjective. What is good and bad is only your inner-critic speaking. Art therapy utilizes creativity as a way to express yourself and get in touch with your subconscious mind. Observing your finished artwork can bring many opportunities to reflect and find insight into your world and emotions.
